It rained the other day. No surprise. It’s summer in south Mississippi. This was one of those rains that after it passed steam could be seen rising from the asphalt. And instead of cooling things off, the rain made the air steamy, thick, worse. Jesus had a knack for making things worse. Not intentionally, but by simply speaking truth the air around him got steamy. You’d think the opposite. Truth should be something everyone agrees with. But no, not in Jesus’ day, nor in our day. I don’t concern myself with civil rights. What matters to me is Biblical Truth! We’re each born either male or female, marriage is between a man and woman, God engages with life at conception. And yes I know to speak those trues is to cause the air around you to get steamy. Apostle Paul writes to us “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18) Jesus did not seek conflict. He never asserted his rights. He also never hid truth. (John 7:28 But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true) Jesus lived truth in love, even to those who would mock and ridicule him. May I have the same humble love as I live in our steamy times.
