07/16 Throughout history humanity attributed acts of nature to be under the direction of God. So much so that sun and moon, thunder and lightening were considered gods. And as we read the Old Testament scriptures it is undeniable that Yahweh, God Most High pronounced drought and flood and control of nature to reveal His authority and make known His purposes. Jesus changes that. Yes, we see Jesus’ authority over nature; calming storms, feeding thousands with a few fish & loaves, and even defeating death! (Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.) Recent natural disasters, heart breaking loss has demonstrated again humanities absolute powerlessness against the acts of nature. So, we turn to the One who has authority and ask; “where are you?” and “do you care?” Answer: Jesus! His name: Immanuel (Matthew 1:23 a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).) And: Jesus: (Romans 5:8 God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.) Nature inflicts loss and heartache, but its arbitrary appearances are not omens of the gods but rather it’s the whole creation groaning (Romans 8:22) along with us searching and finding hope in Jesus!
