I’m always grateful, this time of year, for the city of Hattiesburg lining Broadway to I-59 with Bradford Pear trees. When the sky is blue and temps are warm their white flowers shout out: “it’s spring”. South Mississippi is beautiful in spring. The buttercups, the azaleas, the wisteria, all sing out: “the old is gone, the new is here”. I read where in D.C. the Cherry trees have blossomed two weeks earlier than usual which puts a damper on their annual Cherry Blossom festival. Bummer. Sometimes the conditions are just right that all our spring flowers bloom at the same time. It’s glorious! Each flower in and of itself is beautiful but together they proclaim God’s handywork as awesome and wonderous. Just like spring’s awakening, God is at work with daily grace in the seasons of our lives, and we are given the privilege to shout out His Goodness. And when we come together each Sunday in worship our shouts of praise become a choir-song proclaiming God as awesome and wonderous. Each flower has it’s own note of praise, as do each of us, and when those notes sing in harmony there is a symphony of praise. That’s why the Hebrew writer(10:24) reminds us to “consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together” Come, join this Sunday’s worship symphony.
