More than a watcher 10-09-2024

hfcnministries

I wonder sometimes if weather persons draw straws to see who gets to report from the spot closest to the eye of the storm. Soon they’ll be standing in ankle deep water, leaning into the gale force wind, pelted with rain all the while exhorting people to take shelter. Who are they reporting to? Those that need the warning are in shelters or without electricity and unable to watch the “bravery” of the reporter. It’s the rest of us, watching tragedy unfold, powerless yet prayerful for safety of those in harms way. For most that’ll be enough. It was for David’s brothers and the other soldiers who for days ran to the battle line, shouted battle cries and shrank back to watch as the enemy giant called them out. They were watchers! When David came he was accused of being another watcher. But instead of watching, he saw and he acted. (1 Samuel 17:28,32) “you came down only to watch the battle.” David said, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.” I’m not besmirching weather reporters. I’m pointing to the storms we see daily impacting people’s lives. Will I be a watcher or a servant of the Lord Jesus and act? PK
