MUGGY: Think of hot, humid, steamy weather as being so unpleasant that you feel "mugged" by it when you step outside. (vocabulary.com) I was “mugged” this morning. I know, it’s Mis’sippi and we should be used to it but there are days you feel as if you inhale a cup of water with each breath! Muggy days are not rare but at least they’re not the norm. Most days have a tolerable atmosphere and we go through our daily routine with hardly a thought of the air around us. (dropping the other shoe) I’m thinking of the atmosphere we have come to appreciate each Sunday morning. The presence of the Holy Spirit inhabits our praise and worship, breathes joy and peace into our lungs, speaks truth and encouragement to our spirit. That’s the norm, and I’m grateful. Sometimes, however, the Holy Spirit can be “muggy”, so thick He penetrates beyond the norm to the deepest vulnerabilities and needs of our soul. In that atmosphere we can only pray the prayer of Isaiah 6:4-5 the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Oh for a “muggy” worship gathering. PK
