A parable: Once there was a sapling, that over the summer had come into its own. Bark had hardened its trunk, twigs sprouted out from its limbs and leaves, so many that light barely shone through, filled its branches. Sunlight and rain nourished this sapling so that it began to think of itself as a tree, like those in the forest around it. Summer turned to Autumn and one by one the sapling’s leaves fell to the ground. In a panic it cried: “it’s over, I’ll never become a tree”. Then the tall, strong, mighty oak next to it whispered: “Oh young one, do you not yet perceive The Creator’s design? Autumn leaves fall, Winter’s freeze follows, only to give way to the new growth revealed in Spring.” Hearing the wise oak, the sapling/young tree, surrendered to The Creator’s purpose in faith and trust. (James 1:2-4) Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. PK
