Do you sing? I was awakened this morning a little before 5:30 with a song, a song outside my window sung by a bird, which if it had volume control, had cranked it to the max. I was irritated at my interruption of sleep. The bird continued to sing the song God had placed in its heart as an invitation to join the song. Irritation melted into praise! I thought of this verse Psalms 40:3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. We live in community where we have shared circumstances: political unrest, economic turmoil, catastrophic weather, rising violence, medical diagnoses. In response there is fear, anger, despair, sorrow. But not for those who know the “new song”. The song, while walking though shared circumstance, resounds with hope, joy, peace and above all, love. This song irritates many. But to some it is an awakening. (Ephesians 5:14) This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” So sing with your volume to the max. PK
