“the people living in darkness have seen a great light;” Matthew 4:16 These are the words of Jesus defining the hope he brings into the world. And today my heart and mind is with the people of Jamaica and those still in the path of hurricane Melissa. Though the light of day has come they will be living in the darkness of a broken power grid, loss of homes and life, blocked corridors needed for basics (water, food). I don’t trivialize their suffering having been through the wrath of Katrina. I get it. I also get how even in the midst of such heartbreak and need God offers peace. God does not impose peace but he does offer a path toward it. Philippians 4:8-9 brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. And the God of peace will be with you. In the midst of recovery chaos there are moments of kindness, compassion, companionship that shine Jesus’ light. Choose to “think about such things”. There you’ll find the peace of God! PK
