I have a waterproof jacket, maybe you have one too. I love it. Water droplets just bead up and roll off, the hood covers my head, I stay dry, until…until the rain becomes a downpour. This “waterproof” jacket apparently has a saturation point where its claim loses integrity. I often hear the gospel proclaimed as “life-proof”: “believe and life just rolls off your shoulder”. Eventually life will dump on you, then what? In Jesus’ Parable of the Sower, he says this about one of the gospel seeds: “Other seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” (Mark 4:16-17) When my waterproof jacket gets soaked, I change jackets. When life soaks you, you can choose to change your beliefs or run deeper into trust in God. Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. (Psalms 91:1-2) PK
