We have wind chimes hanging in our back yard, three specifically. One is handmade and moves with the wind but makes very little sound. The other two are store bought, both with its own unique sound. One is more of a jingle sound while the other has a gong-like sound. The wind blows, the chimes chime. The fiercer the wind, the more robust the sounds. The point is wind chimes only respond to the movement of the wind. I think that’s why Jesus so often refers to the Holy Spirit as wind. (John 3:8) The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” That makes you and I the chimes, the “noisemakers” of the presence of God in the world. (1 Corinthians 12:7,11) Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. We may each make a different sound, but all respond to the same wind. So sound-off, the Spirit is moving! PK
