I’m sure you’ve been there. Whether your phone or computer is acting up, so you give tech a call. The first thing they say is unplug or turn it off, then back on. They start there because the most likely culprit is not the hardware but a conflict with software. The programs that tell your hardware how to act. Using that example, we get it when Jesus says the “software” that causes us to act as we do is the heart. Matthew 15:18-19 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart,… For out of the heart come evil thoughts. The Apostle Paul recognized the “software” conflict in his own heart: Romans 7:15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. The good news is that there is a fix to the corrupted heart software which Paul himself describes: Romans 12:1-2 I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. This is not a heart upgrade but a reprogram of the heart by the Holy Spirit enabling our actions to live in harmony with God’s will. So make the call. God can and will bring your hardware and software into harmony with His purposes. PK
