For heaven's sake 09-09-2026

My grandmother had an expression that even when I think of it now, I can still hear her voice: “for heaven’s sake”. Now mind you, I still don’t really know what that means but every time she uttered the phrase it was out of exasperation. Sometimes it was in response to a surprise but even then, it was an unwelcome surprise. My best guess is that what ever was happening (her grandson’s behavior or clumsy accident) was not good, tilting bad, and in need of heaven’s intervention. (Grandma sometimes took the intervention into her own hands) Lesson learned. A lesson that to this day when life becomes exasperating or unwelcome surprises pop, I’m able to say (pray) “for heaven’s sake”. Which is a short version of: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 Thanks Grandma!
