"oh no!" 05-07-2026

There are those moments when the only thing to say is, “oh no”. It’s that split second before the unexpected happens, and you know it’s not going to be good. I’ve said it as a bystander witnessing: a fall, a car collision, a bumped table followed by the shattering of glass, images of a storm’s aftermath. I’ve said it when news affecting my life reached my ears. “Oh No!” Here’s my thought: God never says, “oh no”. Of-course things happen in our dysfunctional world that ignore God’s plans but never is God taken by surprise. I take comfort in the words of Job 28:  Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. Somewhere in the forest a sparrow has fallen to the ground. “Oh No”. Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. (Matthew 10:29) May my/your next “Oh No” be accompanied with the confidence of our “Father’s care”.
