OverwhelminG Gratitude July 24, 2024

Luke tells a story (Luke 17:11-19) of these 10 guys, diseased with leprosy, who happened upon Jesus and called out to him for healing mercy. “Go show yourselves to the priests”, Jesus said, who after examination would declare them clean, welcoming them back into society. We’re told along the way they were all healed. One of them, overwhelmed with gratitude, stopped in his tracks and returning threw himself at Jesus’ feet giving thanks and glory to God. This week Wendi and I received an outpouring of love, unexpected, overwhelming, humbling, stopping us in our tracks with gratitude and, though the word is inadequate, thanksgiving. Many of you are the giving instigators of our wellspring of joy. Again, thank-you. I’m reminded of one of our favorite worship songs, “I Can Only Imagine” where the chorus asks a question: Surrounded by Your glory what will my heart feel? Will I dance for You Jesus or in awe of You be still? Will I stand in Your presence or to my knees, will I fall? Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all? In that moment none of us know the answer we’ll give, but we can choose now, like the one leper, to live in the awareness of undeserved, overwhelming love…grace, provided in the name of Jesus, Savior and Lord.
