“Rain Rain Go Away! Come Again Some Other Day!” It’s a childhood tune which, though I haven’t heard it sung lately, I’ve definitely heard it expressed. Every conversation has a sentence or two lamenting the rainy weather. And not just a drizzle, a bucket pour, then sun. As if to say, “you may go in under blue skies…I’ll get you coming out!” We feel under siege with weather. Maybe that’s why we humanize hurricanes with names. The reason we feel free to share our weather complaints is because we’re all in it together, young and old, rich and poor, good and bad. So we read: I [Jesus] tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (Matthew 5:44-45) Jesus’ point: sun and rain are blessings from God equally poured out to all. Can we love like that? God does, even me, even you! PK
